Signature Q&A: Linda Eder

LINDA EDER, 58, will be featured as this year’s FestivalSouthFinale performer along with the FestivalSouth Orchestra. Showcasing one of the greatest voices of our time, Eder’s diverse repertoire spans Broadway, standards, pop, country and jazz. Eder began her career right out of high school, eventually landing a gig at Harrah’s Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. But it was her appearance on the 1987 season of “Star Search,” during which she won for an unprecedented 12 straight weeks, which attracted the attention of audiences and record companies alike. 

What is your idea of happiness? 
I am never bored at home. I have so many interests and hobbies that the days are never long enough. So, what makes me most happy is time!

What is your greatest fear?  
Flying in an airplane.  
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? 
I am too quick to blame others.  
What is the trait you most deplore in others?  
Not telling the truth.
What is your most prized possession? 
Inanimate object would be a necklace made from the only surviving earring that I have had since I was five. Living German Shepherd, Shadow.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I would like to speak all languages fluently.
What is your favorite quality in a woman? 
The ability to be nurturing.
What is your favorite quality in a man?
What do you most value in your friends? 
Their laughter and their ability to make me laugh.

What is your idea of misery?  
Taking off in a plane.
Who is your favorite fictional hero?  
Aragon from Lord of the Rings
Who are your heroes in real life? 
My Dad and my brother
What was the worst day of your life? 
Whenever I have had to put a pet to sleep that is always the worst day of my life
What was the happiest day of your life? 
The day my son was born.

What would you eat for your last meal?

How would you like to die?
In my comfy bed sound asleep when I am every bit of 120.
What is your greatest regret?
That I never got to know my paternal Grandfather who died during the war.
If you could have dinner with anyone – dead or alive – who would it be? 
If I only get to pick one it would be Abraham Lincoln
What words would people use to describe you?  
Tall, funny, jack of all trades.
What is your present state of mind?
 Very peaceful time in my life.  
What is your motto?
"There's always one."...think about it.
