Hattiesburg Debutante Association's 2018 Debutantes

A Debutante Ball was held at the Hattiesburg Country Club following the presentation. The Hattiesburg Debutante Association started in 1952 as the Junior Cotillion of Hattiesburg and is celebrating its 66th season this year.

The 2018 debutante officers who planned this year’s celebration are:  President Mary Morgan Gratwick, Vice President Brie Dyess, Secretary Claire Schwartz, Treasurer Kristen Pickering, Social Chairman Maggie Phillips, Publicity Chairman Madison Dyar, Decorations Co-Chairs Hannah Flathau and Mary Franklin McCarthy, and Historian Caroline Duff.

 The debutantes to be presented are included below, including a brief individual biography, presenters, and the escorts.  

 

1. Anna Kathryn Ashley Andy is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Orlando Joseph Andy Jr. of Hattiesburg. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Carl Martel of Biloxi, and Louise Murphy Andy of Madison and the late Dr. Orlando Joseph Andy Sr. 

Andy is a sophomore at the University of Mississippi, where she is majoring in nutrition. She is a member of Chi Omega Sorority, Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, Sigma Alpha Lambda Honor Society,and an Ole Miss Chancellor’s List Scholar. 

She was presented by her father, and escorted by Alden Monroe Rhian, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rhian III of Hattiesburg.

 

2. Julia Elaine Bishop is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Joseph Bishop of Hattiesburg. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bishop of Gulfport, and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Edward ‘Buddy’ Gardner of Hattiesburg. 

Bishop is a sophomore at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she is majoring in nursing. She is a member of Delta Gamma Sorority where she serves as the Director of Alumnae Relations, a Luckyday Scholar, an Honors College Discovery Scholar, and a member of the Lambda Sigma Honor Society. 

She was presented by her father, and escorted by Robert Cade Slaughter, son of Susan Cade Slaughter of Hattiesburg and the late  James Eugene Slaughter.

 

3. Presley Ann Davis is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Barnes and Mr. and Mrs. George Davis of Hattiesburg.  She is the granddaughter of Nancy Young Regan of Hattiesburg and the late Jack Regan and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Frazier Davis of Waynesboro.  

Davis is a sophomore at the University of Mississippi, where she is majoring in nursing.  She is a member of Phi Mu Sorority, Heritage United Methodist Church, and Campus Crusade for Christ. She is also an International Area Manager for Arbonne. 

She was presented by her father, and escorted by Zachary Stuart Irby, son of Stuart Irby and Angela Garcia Hogan of Hattiesburg.

 

4. Callie Ann Farris is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Christopher Farris. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Edward Farris of Hattiesburg and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas James Schultz of Biloxi.  

Farris is a sophomore at Mississippi State University, where she is majoring in communications.  She is a member of Kappa Delta Sorority where she serves as Homecoming Chairman, the 2017-2018 Mississippi State Pom Squad, Maroon VIP, and Relay For Life.  

She was presented by her father, and escorted by Grant Christopher Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Edward Wilson of Purvis.

 

5. Sarah Hadley Greer is the daughter of Melissa Phillips Greer of Hattiesburg of Hattiesburg and the late Lawrence Lee Greer III.  She is the granddaughter of Martha K. McMahan, Betty Stewart and Lawrence Lee Greer Jr., all of Hattiesburg and the late Lawrence Robert Phillips of Rio Rico, Ariz.  

Greer is a sophomore at the University of Alabama, where she is majoring in biology (pre-medicine). She is a member of Chi Omega Sorority, Honors College, Emerging Scholars Undergraduate Research Program, and STEM Path to MBA.  

She was presented by her brothers, Lane Kellum Greer and Lawrence Lee Greer IV, and escorted by Robert Madison Wilkins, son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Gillespie Wilkins of Hattiesburg.

 

6. Allison Michelle Mayers is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barton Robert Jones of Hattiesburg and Mr. and Mrs. George Alan Mayers of Natchez. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reese Aubrey McRaney of New Hebron, Robert Houston Jones of Hattiesburg and the late Anne Kerce Jones, and the late Mr. and Mrs. George Henry Mayers of Natchez. 

Mayers is a sophomore at Mississippi State University, where she is majoring in marketing with a minor in political science. She is a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, Feed the Hunger Campus Organization, a Student Success Scholar Recipient, and an Academic Excellence Scholarship Recipient. 

She was presented by her stepfather, and escorted by Carter Joseph Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oley Joseph Allen of Gulfport.

 

7. Laken Sierra McBride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert O. Tatum of Hattiesburg and Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Franklin McBride Jr. of Hattiesburg. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Kenneth Ulmer of Laurel and Linda Dale Rogers of Laurel and the late Jasper Franklin McBride.  

McBride is a sophomore at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she is majoring in nursing with a minor in psychology.  She is a member and volunteer at Venture Church and a volunteer at The Claiborne Assisted Living and Memory Care Center.  

She was presented by her father, and escorted by Bryant Jaycob Bowen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Bowen of Shreveport, La.

 

8. Karsen McCaye Motter is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Leslie Motter of Hattiesburg. She is the granddaughter of Bronwyn Smith O’Dell of Hattiesburg and John Robert O’Dell of Pensacola, Fla. and the late Kenneth Motter and Margaret Grant Motter of Marietta, Ga. 

Motter is a sophomore at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she is majoring in biochemistry. She is a member of Kappa Delta Sorority where she serves on the recruitment team, a President’s List Scholar, an Honors College Mentor, and a member of the Honors College Leadership Council. 

She was presented by her brothers, Donald Leslie Motter Jr. and David Smith Motter, and escorted by Michael Dylan Maddox, son of Harlan Keith Maddox of Magee and Anna Michelle Akins of Hattiesburg.

 

9.  Samantha Kennan Murray is the daughter of Scott Edward Murray and Teresa Shoemake-Murray of Hattiesburg. She is the granddaughter of Martha Elizabeth Shoemake-Riley of Hattiesburg and the late Mr. Gavin Eugen Shoemake and Edna Davis Murray of Charlottesville, Va., and the late James Edward Roberts.  

Murray is a sophomore at the University of Southern Mississippi, majoring in finance.  She is a member of Chi Omega Sorority, University Fellowship, and Converge Conversations on the Public Relations Committee.  

She was presented by her father, and escorted by Michael Eugene McElroy III, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Eugene McElroy Jr. of Hattiesburg.

 

10. Emily Elizabeth Nichols is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Wright Nichols III of Hattiesburg. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Wright Nichols Jr. of Jackson and the late Mr. and Mrs. Camillus Caruthers Sullivan Jr. of Hattiesburg.

Nichols is a sophomore at the University of Mississippi, where she is majoring in pharmaceutical sciences with dual minors in biology and chemistry.  She is a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Twentieth Star Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was presented by her father, and escorted by Jake Michael Penny, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hall Penny of Gulfport.

 

11. Mary Magruder Nichols is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Wright Nichols III, of Hattiesburg. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Wright Nichols Jr. of Jackson and the late Mr. and Mrs. Camillus Caruthers Sullivan Jr. of Hattiesburg.

Nichols is a sophomore at the University of Mississippi, where she is majoring in exercise science with an emphasis in occupational therapy.  She is a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority where she serves on the Philanthropy Committee, incoming Historian for the Hattiesburg Debutante Association, and a member of the Twentieth Star Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was presented by her father, and escorted by James Parker Floyd, son of Dr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Alan Floyd of Hattiesburg.

 

12. Katelyn Marianna Elaine Niemeyer is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Carl Niemeyer of Hattiesburg. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Graves of Purvis, Joan Niemeyer of Hattiesburg and the late Carl Niemeyer.  

Niemeyer is a junior at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she is majoring in accounting. She is a member of Chi Omega Sorority, Lambda Sigma Honor Society, Dixie Darlings, and a President and Dean’s List Scholar.  

She was presented by her father, and escorted by John Ryan Rouse, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Rouse of Purvis.

 

13. Anna Claire Pecunia is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Richard Alan Pecunia of Hattiesburg.  She is the granddaughter of Beverly Wilson Morris of Hattiesburg and the late Mr. John Denson Morris Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Harold J. Pecunia of Slidell, La.

Pecunia is a sophomore at the University of Mississippi, where she is majoring in biological sciences. She is a member of Kappa Delta Sorority where she serves as Rush Team Assistant, a member of the Student Activities Board, an Oxford Exchange Club Volunteer, and a 2017-2018 member of the Ole Miss Co-Ed Cheer Team where she competed at college nationals.

She was presented by her father, and escorted by Jefferson Rush Stewart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson Birge Stewart of Hattiesburg.

 

14. Ansley Rayne Plunk is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stacy Plunk of Hattiesburg.  She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Wayne Plunk of Bruce, and Sharon Brasher of Foley, Ala., and the late Charles Brasher.

Plunk is a sophomore at the University of Mississippi, where she is majoring in integrated marketing communications. She is a member of Chi Omega Sorority, the Ole Miss Annual Design Team and volunteers with LeapFrog After-School Tutoring Program.

She was presented by her father, and escorted by Michael Longley Gornak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Alexander Sutherland and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Edward Gornak of Hattiesburg.

 

15. Mary Grace Prine is daughter of Colonel and Mrs. John Mark Prine of Hattiesburg. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Lee Prine of Hattiesburg, and the late James Edward Dance Sr. and Eloise Dendy Dance of Acadia, La.

Prine is a sophomore at Mississippi University for Women, where she is majoring in physical therapy. She is a member and captain of the volleyball team, selected for the Dean’s and Athletic Director’s academic honors list, the Elizabeth Gwin Scholarship for Academic Excellence, and a member of “The W Leadership Council.”

She was presented by her father, and escorted by Scott Taylor McMurrian, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Scott McMurrian of Hattiesburg.

 

16. Catherine Elisabeth Raggio is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Michael Joseph Raggio of Hattiesburg. She is the granddaughter of Constance Marie Schmidt Raggio of Baton Rouge, La., and the late Joseph Russell Raggio and Cynthia Ann Black of Tool, Texas, and the late Bill Ray Franklin.

Raggio is a sophomore at Louisiana State University, where she is majoring in biological sciences. She is a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, Best Buddies friendship organization for the intellectual and developmentally disabled, National Society of College Scholars, and the President’s list.

She was presented by her father, and escorted by Joseph Harmon Ingram, son of Joel Ingram and Christine Morris of Hattiesburg.

 

17.  Ashton Elizabeth Reno is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William Louis Reno III of Hattiesburg. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Roy Yarbro Jr. of Jackson, and Mr. and Mrs. William Louis Reno Jr. of Ridgeland. 

Reno is a sophomore at the University of Mississippi, where she is majoring in nutrition emphasizing in pre-dental. She is a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, Gamma Beta Phi Honors Society, and the Pre-Dental Society. 

She was presented by her father, and escorted by Christopher Lewis Wilkins, son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Gillespie Wilkins of Hattiesburg.

 

18.  Grace Danielle Sanders is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dylan Sanders of Hattiesburg.  She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Hill of Ellisville, Mr. Jimmy McDaniel of Jackson, Mrs. Delphia Sanders of Hattiesburg, MS, and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Sanders of Broken Arrow, OK.

Sanders is a sophomore at Pearl River Community College, where she is majoring in speech language pathology.  She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, on the leadership team of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, PRCC Ladies Soccer Team, and Temple Baptist Church.

She is presented by her father, Dylan Sanders, and escorted by Andrew Mills Boyd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Boyd of Hattiesburg.

 

19.  Aubrie Michelle Ware is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lance Martin Ware of Hattiesburg.  She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Meredith of Olive Branch, Mr. Roy Ware of Olive Branch, and Mrs. Betty Horton of Batesville.

Ware is a sophomore at William Carey University, where she is majoring in pre-medicine.  She is a member of the Cross-Country Team, a Dean’s List Scholar, Pre-Soma, and Pi-Omega.

She is presented by her father, Lance Martin Ware, and escorted by Stephen-Patrick Haynes, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Haynes of Dallas, TX.

 

20.  Reilly Blayne Warren is the daughter of Ms. Angela Benfield Warren of Hattiesburg. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. B.W. Benfield of Hattiesburg, and Mrs. Martha Lynn Wilkinson of Laurel, and Mr. David Adrian Warren of Laurel. 

Warren is a sophomore at Pearl River Community College, where she is majoring in nursing. She is a member of Mu Alpha Theta. 

She will be presented by her uncle, William Gregory Benfield, and escorted by Gary Isaac Heathcock, son of the late Mr. Henry Sherman Heathcock III of Hattiesburg and Ms. Gina Heathcock of Hattiesburg.

 

21.  Carlisle Connell Washburne is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Franklin Washburne of Hattiesburg. She is the granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. Willard Frederick Washburne of Shreveport, LA, and Mrs. June Farish Carlisle of Hattiesburg. 

Washburne is a sophomore at the University of Alabama, where she is majoring in biology with a minor in psychology. She is a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority where she serves as the Activities Chair, Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Health Honor Society, a UA Honors College Freshman Seminar Leader, and a President’s List Scholar. 

She will be presented by her father, Joseph Franklin Washburne, and escorted by Hunter James Hammett, son of Dr. and Mrs. Michael James Hammett of Hattiesburg.

 

22.  Anna Michelle Webb is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brandon Carter Webb of Petal.  She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ned G. McInnis, Jr., of Hattiesburg, Ms. Jonee L. McElhaney of Hattiesburg, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Allen of Birmingham, AL.

Webb is a sophomore at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she is majoring in biological sciences.  She is a member of Chi Omega Sorority and a Luckyday Scholar and Mentor.

She will be presented by her father, Brandon Carter Webb, and escorted by Luke Ryan High, son of Dr. and Mrs. Loyd Bartlett High of Petal.

 

23.  Mary Claire Whitehead is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Raymond Young Whitehead of Purvis. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stewart Parker of Florence, and Dr. and Mrs. William Arthur Whitehead of Hattiesburg. 

Whitehead is a sophomore at Mississippi State University, where she is majoring in health and nutrition. She is a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, Lambda Sigma Honor Society, Society for Collegiate Leadership and Achievement, and a recipient of the Maroon Volunteer Center Excellence Award. 

She will be presented by her father, Raymond Young Whitehead, and escorted by Remington Daniel Lucus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Lucus of Sumrall.

 

24.  Kristen Grace Wilkes-Mozingo is the daughter of Judge Anthony Allen Mozingo and Ashley Smith Mozingo of Hattiesburg, and Major Jonathan Ray Wilkes and Ashley Naylor Wilkes of Savannah, Tenn. She is the granddaughter of Jo Nell Miller Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Michael Smith of Hattiesburg, and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Ray Wilkes of Savannah, Tenn., and the late Lonnie Ray and Shirley Jo Mozingo of Hattiesburg.  

Mozingo is a sophomore at Mississippi State University, where she is majoring in accounting with a concentration in pre-law and a minor in French. She is a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, Freshman Council for Mississippi State’s Student Association, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Campus Crusade for Christ.  

She was presented by her father, and escorted by Jacob Sterling Shaver, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Franklin Shaver of Hephzibah, Ga.

 

25.  Gillian Diane Williford is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter White Williford of Hattiesburg. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. George R. Hall and the late Mr. George R. Hall of Hattiesburg, and Mrs. Hughey S. Williford and the late Mr. Hughey S. Williford of Jackson. 

Williford is a sophomore at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she is majoring in theatre. She is a member of Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society and Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Honor Society, a USM Foundation Scholarship Recipient, and also a President’s List Scholar. 

She will be presented by her father, Walter White Williford, and escorted by William Robert Ingram, son of Mr. Joel William Ingram and Ms. Christine Morris of Hattiesburg.
